James Draper, 80

James Lamoine Draper, 80, Fairfield Glade, Tenn., and formerly of Wabash County, passed from this life to join the Lord and his loving wife of 55 years, Cheri Anne at 9:25 p.m., Nov. 21, at his daughter's home in Fort Wayne. He was born Oct. 11, 1934 in Roann, to Paul and Alice (McElwee) Draper.

Jim was a 1952 graduate of Roann High School. He married Cheri Anne Crews on June 21, 1953; she preceded him in death on May 14, 2008.  Jim was a longtime resident of Wabash County where he worked at Container Corporation for several years before pursuing his passion for golf by owning and operating Highland Hills Golf Course in Roann and Sycamore Golf Course in North Manchester.  After retiring in 1993, Jim and Cheri moved to Fairfield Glade where he continued to enjoy playing and working at the local golf courses.  Jim was a devoted husband, father and PaPa.  His love for golf and IU basketball was only surpassed by the love he had for his family.  At the time of his passing, Jim was surrounded by his loving family and left this life in a peaceful transition.  His memory will live on as he will be greatly missed by those who loved him. 

He is survived by three daughters, Lori (Dennis) Warner, Fort Wayne; Beth (Dave) Laborde, Paris, Ill.; and Jana (Tim) Scheer, Bowling Green, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Amy (Ben) Shelton and Jessica (Zach) Matuska, both of Fort Wayne; Benjamin (Laura) Laborde, Warsaw; Logan (Megan) Scheer, Englewood, Colo.; Anne Laborde, Fort Wayne; James (Sarah) Laborde, Plainfield; Haley Scheer, Spokane, Wash.; and Brian Warner, New Haven; four great-grandchildren, Cory and Alex Shelton, Jaxon Matuska, and Chloe Laborde; two siblings, Ruth (LeVoy) Early and Philip (Sherry) Draper, both of Roann; He was also preceded by his parents and brother, R.P. Draper.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with David Laborde officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.  Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
