Robert VanMeter, 90

Robert Junior VanMeter, 90, Silver Lake, passed away at 8:20 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, at Wabash County Hospital in Wabash. He was born to the late Fred and Helen (Shatto) VanMeter on Oct. 31, 1924 in Jackson Township.

Robert served his country in the United States Army Air Force during WWII. He was a gunner on the B Twenty Fives. He married Pat Smith in 1992; she survives. He was an agent for Allstate in Wabash for 37 years and he retired after working for George Scheer for two years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Wabash.

He is also survived by his sons, Robert VanMeter (Debbie), Troy, Ohio; Daniel VanMeter, Billings, Mont.; Michael VanMeter, Kansas; Tony VanMeter (Karen), Englewood, Texas; step sons, Alan Weitzel (Monica), Akron; Tim Weitzel, Toledo, Ohio; Eric Weitzel (Patty), Silver Lake; Patrick Weitzel (Kelly), Andrews; daughters, Mrs. William (Vickie) Tackett, Ocala, Fla.; and Mrs. Bruce (Dana) Harp, Logansport; step daughter, Diane Weitzel, Peru; brother, Richard VanMeter, Huntington; sisters, Betty Wolfe, Fort Wayne; and Mrs. Rex (Sandy) Baxter, Huntington; 20 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie; five brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Dan Boone officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Star of Hope in Huntington County.  Visitation for family and friends will be from 1-3 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
