Ava S. King, 88, formerly of Lagro, died at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31 at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester. She was born July 4, 1925 in Lagro to Martin and Virdie (Watkins) Stephenson.
Ava was a 1943 graduate of Lagro High School. She married Fred H. King in Lagro on Aug. 23, 1949; he died May 24, 1993. She was a secretary for the president of Celotex in Lagro. She was a member of the Lagro United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Lagro Eastern Star. Ava collected glass and loved traveling.
Her niece, Sally McKenzie, Warsaw, and sister-in-law, Edith Stephenson, Winona Lake, survive her. Her parents and brother, Charles Stephenson, preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be held at Peabody Chapel, 400 W. 7th St., North Manchester, on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 4 p.m. with Pastor Rick Borgman officiating. Private burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.Preferred memorials are to the Lagro United Methodist Church or Wabash-Miami Home Health Care & Hospice.
