William M. Gillespie, 97, Akron, passed away on Sept. 10 at 9:30 a.m. at his place of residence. He was born in Van West, Ohio to Joshua and Mary (Sherburn) Gillespie on Jan. 16, 1916.
William graduated in 1935 at Silver Lake High School. He married Selena Rhodes on Nov. 20, 1938. She passed on Sept. 14, 2001. William was the owner and operator of Standard Oil Gas Station, Silver Lake, and later was a mechanic at Kerlin Motor Co., Silver Lake, for 30 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Billie (Joe) Risner, Akron; three grandchildren, Ginger Dwyer, Fla., Nicole (Albert) Gutierrez, Akron, and Stacey (Chris) Hoxie, Silver Lake; and his great-grandchildren, Heather and Sara Dwyer, Emma and Bella Gutierrez, Dylon, Elizabeth and Gavin Hoxie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Selena, a half brother, five sisters, and one son, Jay Gillespie in 2010.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 SR 114 West, North Manchester, with Pastor Ed French officiating. Calling hours are on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 3-7 p.m. at McKee Mortuary. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Silver Lake.
