Robert O. Gearhart, 91, formerly of Silver Lake, passed away on Aug. 25, at 6:15 a.m. at Kosciusko Community Hospital Hospital, Warsaw. He was born on May 21, 1922 to Ralph and Edna (Brown) Gearhart in North Manchester.
He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1940 and enjoyed spending the winters in Sebring, Fla. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II from 1942-1946. He attended Warsaw Wesleyan Church. Robert was a farmer. He raised cattle and for 31 years was in plant protection at International Harvester in Fort Wayne. Robert married Lois Montel on Oct. 17, 1943. She survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Thomas (Elaine) Gearhart and Robert (Pam) Gearhart, both of Silver Lake; one daughter, Elaine (Dan) Drabenstot, Omaha, Neb., five grandchildren, Jacque (Al) Kruger, Todd (Jennifer) Gearhart, Jason (Jennie) Gearhart, Scott (Kym) Gearhart, Kim (Jim) Zllers, and Shawn Gearhart; also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 10:30 a.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 SR 114 West, North Manchester, with Pastor Gale Janofski and Pastor Andy Weaver officiating. Friends and family may call at McKee Mortuary on Tuesday, Aug. 4-8 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
