M. Lee Gaff, 90, Roann, died at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at Miller's Merry Manor East in Wabash. He was born Sept. 28, 1922 in Allen County, to William Gaff and Manilla (Van Houten) Gaff Rosenthal.
Lee was a 1940 Chili High School graduate. He was an MP in the US Army during WWII, serving in the European Theater. He married Dorothy Lois Wright in Roann on Nov. 29, 1943. He was a retired millwright worker. Lee was a member of the Roann United Methodist Church, a former Roann Cub Scout Master, and a former member of the Roann Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Millwright Local Union #1076. Lee enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping, and was a member of the Hoosier Cardinal Camping Club. He lived most of his life in the Roann Community.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lois Gaff, Roann; four children, Barbara (Steve) Williams, Plainfield, Michael (Diane) Gaff, Cross City, Fla., Jerry Gaff, Erie, Penn., and Jan Ellyn (Randy) Engledow, Silver Lake; son-in-law, Larry Smith, Cordova, Tenn.; step sister, Marjorie Stoffer, Wabash; 13 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Dianne Smith, a brother Pierre Gaff, two sisters Lona Leedy and Ardith "Dolly" Pontious-Maggart, grandaughter Wendy Pressler, and step father Dwight Rosenthal.
Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 335 S. Chippewa Rd., Roann on Wednesday, July 3, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Rick Stone officiating. Burial will be in Roann Community Cemetery.
Preferred memorial is Roann Volunteer Fire Department.
