Walter Robert "Rosie" Rose Sr., 93, Wabash, died June 24 at 8:42 a.m. at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center, LaFontaine.
He was born Aug. 30, 1919 in Highland Park, Mich. to Milton B. and Edith (Mathewson) Rose. Walter married Mary Anna Phillips in Wabash on Nov. 27, 1943; she died Dec. 10, 2010. He retired in 1981 from United Tool in Wabash. He was also an engineer at General Tire and Rockwool Engineering, both in Wabash. Walter was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by three children, Walter "Bob" (Kandice) Rose Jr., Wabash; Barbara Burnside, Hudson, Fla.; and Leo (Nanette) Rose, Sr., Chesterton, Ind.; ten grandchildren, Eric (Lori) Rose, Franklin, Ind., Patrick (Misty) Rose, Urbana, Jason (Erica) Rose and Stephany (Jeff) Hipskind, Wabash, Andrew Whitesel and Jenifer Whitesel-Santiago, Hudson, Ind., Jamie (Kenny) Greene Land O' Lakes, Fla., Zachariah Rose, LaPorte, Veronica (Mike Hopta) Rose Bolton, Mass., and Leo Rose, Jr. Chesterton; 28 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Geneva Bartig Carrollton, Ga.. Marie Swartz Peoria, Ill., and Kathleen Fleischaber, Placerville, Calif., two sisters-in-law, Arta Phillips, Wabash and Ruth Ann Phillips, Kokomo. Two brothers, a grandson and a great grandson also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 188 W. Sinclair Street, Wabash on Friday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Sextus Don officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 4-7 p.m., Thursday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, with a rosary service at 7 p.m.
