Richard James “Jim” Alexander, 81, of Marshall, Michigan, formerly of Wabash, went to be with his Lord at 11:21 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8, at his home in Marshall.
He was born June 18, 1931, in Wabash, to Paul K. and Lucille Ann (Hoffman) Alexander.
Jim was a 1949 graduate of Wabash High School. While living in Wabash, he worked for General Tire and at Diehl Machines Inc., where he was involved in machine design. He retired from Marshall Brass Company, in Michigan, where he worked as a draftsman and engineer. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 225, and the Disabled American Veterans, all of Marshall, and also the A.A.R.P. He was a US Marine Corps veteran.
He is survived by six children, Rena (Gary) Guttrich of Kentwood, Michigan, Rodney Alexander of Indianapolis, Joseph (Kay) Alexander of Carmel, Daniel Alexander of Jenison, Michigan, Mary (David) Gatchel of Wabash, and Susan Hinojosa of Beaver Creek, Ohio; his children’s mother, Rita Driscoll of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandson; and two brothers, Steven (Linda) Alexander of Sharpsville, and Mike (Kathy) Alexander of Cicero. His son, David Paul Alexander and three sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, located at 207 N. Cass Street, Wabash, on Friday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. with Father Sextus Don officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion. Friends may call 4-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, located at 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash. There will be a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
