Robert L. “Bob” Bitzer, 76, Andrews, died July 26, 3:00 p.m.

He was born Nov. 1, 1933, in Wabash County, to Chester and Velma (Lewis) Bitzer. He married Carolyn Knable on Dec. 19, 1954; she survives.

Mr. Bitzer graduated from Lagro High School before serving in the U.S. Navy. He worked at GenCorp, Marion, for 30 years, retiring in 1998. He was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Wabash County, and he served as a board member for Operation Classroom. He had also been on several work mission trips, including: Africa, Jamaica, Guatemala, Honduras, and several in the United States. He was a former Gideon and enjoyed fishing.

Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Leah Weaver and Joanna Yahne, both of Huntington; a brother, George (Zelma) Bitzer, Lagro; and seven grandchildren, Kevin Chappel, Danny Weaver, Anna Yahne, Elaine Yahne, Jon Bitzer, Jordon Bitzer, and Taylor Bitzer. He was preceded in death by a son, David Bitzer; a brother, John Bitzer; and two sisters, Lena Pelino and Sue Cline.

Funeral services will be held July 31, 1 p.m., at Deal-Rice Funeral Home, Andrews Chapel, 233 N. Main St., Andrews, with Pastor Randy Webb officiating. Visitation will be July 31, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Andrews Riverside Cemetery.
