Myra Gene Gouvan, 83, rural Wabash, went to be with her Lord July 19, 1:30 p.m., at her daughter's home in Wabash.
She was born April 10, 1927, in Wabash County, to Jesse and Ida (Anderson) Baker. She married Frank E. Gouvan, in Speicherville, on Sept. 17, 1947; he died Oct. 1, 1992.
Mrs. Gouvan was a Lagro High School graduate. She worked for First National Bank for 37 years and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, both in Wabash. She enjoyed watching old movies, collecting old hymnals, gardening, sewing, and crafts. She also volunteered her time working with the Holy Walk in Bremen. She shared her life between the Wabash and Bremen communities. She especially loved her grandchildren.
She is survived by three children, Michael (Jeannie) Gouvan, Markle; and Sheila (Larry) Gilley and Dennis (Cheri) Gouvan, both of Wabash; five grandchildren, Todd Gouvan, Lafayette; Jesse Scott Gouvan, Wabash; Beth (Steve) Heller, Akron; and Jeremy Gouvan and Joseph (Rachael) Gouvan, both of Wabash; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Shidaker, Walkerton; and a sister-in-law, Marguerite Baker, Wabash. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, and a grandson, Matthew Gilley, who died Oct. 16, 1996.
Funeral services will be held July 23, 10 a.m., at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, with Rev. Phil Lake officiating. Friends may call July 22, 4 - 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
